When Should Preseason Training Begin?

By: roddnet

"It appears to me that these coaches aren't good judges of inate ability. Nor can they be at U12. They set themselves up for failure by trying to make predictions during preadolescence and before these kids are seen on the full sized diamond. It is a size of the fish and size of the pond thing. "

Isn't baseball a game of failure?

"I would bet you that only 3 or 4 will be playing varsity baseball by the time they are seniors."

I dont disagree with you. I am just along for the ride. It is my son's baseball experience. I like to watch him play. He has a goal of his own to play HS baseball.

Personally I cant judge innate ability. I cant count how many times I have seen a kid one season come out to play and look like junk... and the next season play better than ever...

The only thing that is constant is change.

I do think that if he is getting instruction on proper mechanics for throwing and hitting as well as good fundamentals on how to play the game, he will enjoy the game more.

Whether he plays HS ball or not remains to be seen. But it is not the end of the world.
