My Son did!!!!!!!!!HELP!!!!!
By: MelDear DAD:
You sound like my husband about 21 years ago when our second son made his first All Star team. Like you, both of us were very involved and we couldn't be sure if Kev got on honestly or because someone was trying to curry our favor.
You admit that no deserving 12's were left off, and that your son is, in fact more than likely the 12th player on the team. Then he deserves All Stars. It's that simple. Someone has to be the 12th player on the team. Someone has to be the 13th and 14th on the team. But now days the 13th and 14th spot isn't used alot because parents can't admit that their child is the 12th, 13th, 14th player on the team. You are refreshing Dad, but give your boy a little credit. While you are doing that, give the other players in the league credit also. In the past 7 years since our league has allowed the players a voice in All Star voting, ( Our leagues the players place 6 players on the teams) they have never put a player on the team that didn't deserve to be there. They have had some years when they picked the "12th, 13th, and 14th " players on the team. One year after All Stars were all over, and since I am kinda of a "Grandma" to alot of the younger players ( I have Grandchildren playing in Juniors, and then another as a 9 yo minor league) I asked one of the 12 yos, why did they pick little Johnny. I was told, " we all knew that Johnny wasn't the best player, but we knew he was the best team player. We were afraid the adults wouldn't put him on, so we did get together and agreed to vote for him. He was the only one who didn't get mad when coach let him only play one time at bat, or only let him in the game for 3 outs. He was happy to be on the team and he rooted for the rest of us. He is a good friend!" I haven't exactly said what he did, I can't type that much, but that was the idea behind it. ( I have also left out that he apologize because I had told them not to get together and decide who to vote for, to vote their own minds) These kids understood the concept so much better then us, and I had faith in them, but I am a grandma, and a child and adolescent Psychologist, so I always knew that they would see it right. Trust the kids. They know the ones who will make a good All Star players even if he isn't the one with all the homerun pins, or the biggest OBP, or Strike Out King. They know they also need someone on the bench who is saying "Don't worry about it, you will get it next time." Congrats Dad and make sure you tell your boy that for me too, After the 15th of course!!
