Need some advice

By: Baseball Dad

"Are you underestimating his competetiveness? Don't assume he will not succeed and start at whatever position he desires. There is no question he will improve from competing with and against the best."

Well, maybe I'm underestimating him. Every dad thinks "their" kid is the best ever, and I am trying not to do that myself, so I might be overcompensating the other direction - thinking he'll do more bench time than he will. He's hanging with the travel kids a year older, and he gets plenty of playing time (infield too) in the tournaments.

One of the posters made a good comment that he'll be just as good (and have as much fun) when he's 12 with 3 years of Majors, than he will with 2. I'm torn on this - I'm not sure if I agree or not. seeing 60+ mph fastballs for three years instead of two "should" make the kid better, but, then again, if the first year of it results in lots of strike-outs - that's not much fun.

So the question them becomes: do you learn more from lots of walks, or getting struck out more? Walking is probably more fun (at least you get on base) - but do you learn anything from it other than what not to swing at?
