"Bunting" Square around or Pivot

By: Tony Lindsey

Actually, I disagree with Steve. For beginners I use the square around so that there entire focus is just getting the bat on the ball. Once they achieve that consistently, I convert them to the pivot. However, game application depends on the kid and the situation. If you need a sacrifice, go with the square around to ensure contact. If you are looking for a base hit, the batter should pivot. Also, if it is a player with good bat skills you can have him pivot late for a delayed bunt. My players use the pivot the majority of the time.
