What I Saw At The Regionals
By: Bear
Hi Steve Martin
Yes, the game of "Pepper" is taught to
all of our 10/11/12 yr olds. I believe
it is as 'fundamental' as tee-work.
I also believe that this lil' game
is not taught enough at the teenager level.
Just last week, I used the game of pepper
with a young 9 grader so that he could
understand his own hitting mechanics
and how to 'square' to the ball at contact
in the hitting plane.
(& for those friends whom read
this stuff, as well as those friends I
have not yet met)
What PEPPER is ?
Pepper is a game (hitting drill) that
allows the players:
- To perfect the mechanics of his swing.
- The perfect swing sans follow thru.
- To chat with each other pre-game.
- To learn how to hit the ball with the fat
(sweet spot) part of the bat.
- Learns how to stay agressive at plate.
- Learn how to hit every bad pitch in the book.
- Learn how to make contact.
- Improves hand/eye fielding (great for P)
- Improves flipping the ball. (great for MInf)
- Learn how not to buy Cokes.
- Teaches the value of teamwork.
- Allows the coaches to chat with the Moms
and see if they brought anything good to eat!
- Others (whom want to add value here pls do so.)
cheers mate & (1/2 Scottish)
